New York State Legislative Proclamation
On August 28, 2015, New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio (54th Senate District) stopped by to
present the current and former owners of Mac's with a New York State Legislative Proclamation to
honor our 55 seasons in business. Senator Nozzolio noted that "Mac's Drive-In is an icon and one of
only a few drive-in restaurants left in all of New York State. Mac's is famous for its signature root
beer floats and delicious food, and has been featured in numerous local and national articles and
continues to be an extremely popular location within our region."

Mac's Drive-In Restaurant upon the occasion
of celebrating its 55th year in business

WHEREAS, Within each community of this great State of New York there are certain
businesses that define the nature of the region and the people who inhabit it; and

WHEREAS, Such is true of Mac's Drive-In Restaurant, located in Waterloo, New York.
For over 55 years, Mac's Drive-In has been an icon in the Finger Lakes; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Mac's Drive-In Restaurant
upon the occasion of celebrating its 55th year in business; and

WHEREAS, On June 18, 1961, two brothers, Gerald and Raymond MacDougal,
along with their wives Cathy and Vera, transferred an old gas station into
Mac's Drive-In Restaurant at 460 Waterloo-Geneva Road, Waterloo, New York; and

WHEREAS, The two families built a counter out front, providing open air seating,
and a carhop ramp in the back of the building; they were the first fast food
restaurant in the area offering curb service to their customers; and

WHEREAS, After seven successful years, the restaurant was moved to a
larger building down the road; and

WHEREAS, In 1968, the new and improved Mac's Drive-In Restaurant reopened;
the carhop service ramp was moved to the larger building
and another ramp was installed, providing room for 32 cars; and

WHEREAS, For over five decades, Mac's Drive-In Restaurant's loyal customers
have enjoyed delicious hamburgers, fresh-cut french fries, milkshakes and
Richardson's signature home-made root beer which is served in a frosted glass mug; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Jim MacDougal, son of Gerald and Cathy, along with former
employees, Craig and Becky Adam, own and operate the retro drive-in restaurant
beloved by both local residents and tourists enjoying the beautiful Finger Lakes Region; and

WHEREAS, Today, Mac's Drive-In Restaurant continues to capture the nostalgia
of a Finger Lakes summer night, reminding customers of an era when highways
did not yet dominate the landscape. The big sign, the 1950's and 1960's look and
a proven tried and true service formula have served the restaurant well; and

WHEREAS, Mac's Drive-In Restaurant was featured in the July/August 2015
Life in the Finger Lakes  magazine in an article entitled, "Exploring the Finger Lakes:
Forsake the Highway for the Slow Road," the July/August 2013
Good Life Central New York
magazine, in the article entitled, "Old Fashioned for a Reason" and the July 22, 2010 article
in the
Democrat & Chronicle, "In Waterloo, a Road Food Blast from 50 Years Past"; and

WHEREAS, Mac's Drive-In Restaurant was recognized by the Finger Lakes Times
as the "Business of the Week" in its April 4th, 2013 edition. On April 15, 2009, it was
featured on the front page of the Finger Lakes Food and Entertainment cover; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting that this Legislative Body recognize local businesses such
as Mac's Drive-In Restaurant which have become institutions in the community, as well
as the successful entrepreneurs who have nurtured them throughout the years;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend
Mac's Drive-In Restaurant upon the occasion of celebrating its 55th year in business,
fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the same success and indomitable spirit
which has so characterized its past; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Proclamation, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to
Jim MacDougal and Craig and Becky Adam, owners of Mac's Drive-In Restaurant.
